Born and raised to working class parents in Manchester, NH, I am the first in my immediate family to graduate from college, and I am first in my extended family to receive a doctorate.
Having been a first generation college student has helped me be a more effective teacher at South Texas College, where most of my students are also the first in their family to attend college. I am able to understand the difficulties faced by students raised in households without college-level communication skills or understanding of how to navigate the college environment.

My interest in philosophy began while I was in still in high school, after reading some philosophy of science and A Treatise of Human Nature by David Hume (little of which I understood at the time!) So I enrolled at Boston University as a philosophy major; and after receiving my bachelor's degree there, I moved to Miami, FL to begin my graduate studies at the University of Miami. I was particularly attracted to studying the classical pragmatists and epistemology, and Susan Haack was the perfect fit as a mentor!
